Artelexia: Delightful Mexican Gift Shop in North Park

Approximately a 2 minute read

I started following Artelexia on Instagram a couple of months ago when searching for cool murals in San Diego. At the time, a large, beautiful, inspiring mural on their south exterior wall was being painted. I loved seeing updates over the course of the week, and I hurried to go visit the shop in person after it was done.

I couldn’t have been more impressed with the design of the shop, variety and quantity of items for sale, and friendliness of the owner, Elexia. In addition to home goods sourced throughout Mexico, gifts, toys, and books, you’ll find a freezer filled with paletas (so much better than a regular popsicle) and a DIY piñata station you can book ahead of time. I wanted to take one of everything home—especially ceramic planters to redo my patio. This book (below), Casa Mexico would make a great gift for a design-minded travel blogger in your life. Wink.

Channin Fulton, the artist of the mural outside, also painted the “Love Yourself” mural of Frida Kahlo inside. This photo does not do it justice—the color vibrancy or the sheer size.

In conclusion: This shop is a must-visit if you are visiting San Diego (or especially if you live here). It is located one block south of University in the heart of North Park.
