I realize that 6 months have passed since I launched The Voyageer and I haven’t yet shared a proper introductory post. I have an about me page (which has got to be the most awkward part of making any website), but let’s cover more ground by having a little chat here instead.

Hi! I’m Staci!

I have been traveling my whole life. When I was young it was a lot of family road trips each summer, as you do. When I was in middle school, I left the U.S. for the first time—scenic British Columbia, Canada. A few years later I was on a Carnival cruise that docked in Cozumel, Mexico for a scarce handful of hours. Hah! I currently live in San Diego, a city with endless things to do and is also a nice home base to visit Mexico.

In high school I studied French all four years, culminating in a week-long trip to France my senior year. That was a huge turning point for me! That was when the travel bug truly bit and I knew I had to get out and see as much of the world as possible. In college I made sure to sign up for school-related things that included a trip of some kind. My major even required me to study abroad. Once my friends and I started moving away from each other, most of my extra money started going towards driving or flying to see them. Seeing new places is exciting to me, but seeing familiar faces in new places is my actual favorite.

5 Questions

Where is your favorite place you have traveled?

While I could go back to France time and time again, I think the favorite place I have traveled is Morocco. I lived there for six weeks in college. It was so much different than anywhere I’d been before or have ever been since. I can’t wait to return and see how it has changed (or how I have changed!)

Where is one place you don’t want to travel?

I don’t have an answer to this; I am game to traveling anywhere. I certainly have my list of prioritized places, so there will definitely be places I go first, or revisit, before “x” country. Dangerous countries really give me pause. I wish there was no such thing as a region too dangerous to visit.

Where is one place you do want to travel?

Right now I am really itching to go to Japan and Korea. I have never traveled to an Asian country before and I want to go gorge myself on street food. Oh, and of course I’d love to learn more about their history and culture.

If someone could only go to one place, where would you suggest they go?

Go where your ancestors are from. Get connected to where your origins lie. Whether it’s been a few generations or hundreds of years since your family migrated, there will be something there to draw you in.
