Ace Hotel & Swim Club Palm Springs

Approximately a 4 minute read

I honestly don’t know where to begin when it comes to the Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs. Legendary and iconic are some words that come to mind when I think about this hot spot. In 2019, the chain is celebrating 20 years and this location is celebrating 10 years. After all this time, the re-imagined vintage motor lodge still feels fresh, innovative, and impossibly cool.

Ace Hotel & Swim Club is located on the southwest edge of Palm Springs. Located just after S Palm Canyon Drive curves east, the hotel is now surrounded by other nicely remodeled motorist hotels. Just a few years ago, the Ace stood out as the only vintage-refurbished one in the area.

It is located a short drive from Downtown Palm Springs and very close to the famous Moorten Botanical Garden. Being on the west side of town, the mountain ridge is quite close and just up dramatically as a rugged backdrop to the smooth clean lines of the midcentury architecture.

I’ve stayed here a few times now and the rooms have never disappointed. The beds are gigantic and luxurious. The AC provides a much needed respite front the 100°+ temperatures outside. The minibar is very well equipped but expensive—if you can, bring goodies from home.

The first room we ever booked at Ace Palm Springs was patio with fireplace. We were able to enjoy privacy provided by the breeze block courtyard and rustic wooden door. We hung our towels and robes outside to dry quickly.

Not all rooms have patios; the most affordable ones don’t, but are no less stylish or comfortable. Reserving a room with a patio is required if you plan to bring your dog. The pet fee is an extra $25. Every room has a king bed except for the Standard Double, which has two queens.

Pool & Other Amenities

You’re in Palm Springs, the weather is brutally hot… there has got to be a pool, right? Try two. The main pool, the star of the show, the one that people pay a fee to use even if they aren’t staying at the hotel, is large with LOTS of sun chairs and poolside drink service. Many weekends they have a DJ at this pool; check the hotel’s social media channels to find out who will be spinning. Off of this pool, one will find the health spa, lobby, The Amigo Room, and shop kiosk. There is a stargazing deck too which provides a fun view of the hotel from one story up.

The second pool has more of a chill vibe and less traffic. Families seem to like this one, and there is a rentable event room attached. I believe well-behaved dogs may be welcome at this pool, but check with the staff first. Speaking of your furry friend, located at the extreme southwest corner of the hotel grounds there is a small dog park where your pet can make a new friend.

King’s Highway, the on-site restaurant occupies that used to be a Denny’s, serves up everything from fresh-pressed juice to updated versions of classic diner food. The modern diner is so good people come to eat even if they’re staying at a different hotel in the area.

The Amigo Room is a bar (where you can get food) with a vintage cantina-slash-lounge vibe. Everything is painted black for a dramatic effect. If you can, try to get seated in one of the semi-circle booths in a cut-out niche.
