Hotel Review: NYX Hotel in Prague

Approximately a 4 minute read

In the beginning stages of planning my recent Europe trip, deciding where we would physically be on which dates was somewhat stressful. Once everything clicked into place, however, it was easy to fill in the blanks, beginning with Prague. We flew into Czechia and kicked our trip off in style at the NYX Hotel Prague.

Two factors went into my choice of this hotel. First, traveling in the Czech Republic is relatively cheap when compared to neighboring European countries (like Germany). Due to this, I decided to splurge. Second, we would be staying for three nights, so I wanted to stay somewhere spacious where we could unpack our bags and spread out a little, especially since the next three nights would be on the road.

Location

Centrally located near Wenceslas Square, and a short walk from Prague’s fabulous above-ground tram line, NYX Hotel is in the heart of the city but not stuck in the tourist-congested Old Town. The Alphonse Mucha Museum is literally next door to this hotel.

From NYX Hotel to Old Town and the famous Astronomical Clock, it is a short 9 minute walk through a very nice business and shopping oriented neighborhood. I felt safe whenever I ventured out, whether that was 7am or 11pm.

Rooms

All of the accommodations at Hotel NYX Prague are quite stylish, but I selected an upgraded room with a desk, bench and chair. The extra space came in handy when my family dropped in for a breakfast of pastries and coffee. Hotel rooms are typically small in Europe: since I was already splurging on a chic hotel I chose a bigger one to boot.

The room had concrete floors and a soft rug. The ceilings were high with industrial exposed ducting. The tall ceilings helped create a luxurious penthouse feeling even though we were only on the third level. Since we were there for three days my husband and I loved having a closet we could put our clothes in to keep them from wrinkling in our suitcases.

We did not opt-in to the hotel breakfast buffet, but should have—few shops or cafes in the area opened early. Across from NYX Hotel there was a small convenience store where we bought pastries to bring back to our room. Our coffee machine was restocked every day, so this along with the pastries allowed us to save money on food.

As for our room’s bathroom, it was quite small and the door latch was a little tricky. NYX provided shampoo, body wash, and lotion (no conditioner). The rain-head shower was a luxurious treat after a long day of walking Old Town’s cobblestone streets. The housekeeping staff came in to refresh our room every day, providing fresh towels and remaking the bed for us.

Other Amenities

The hotel staff are friendly and eager to help you. All the front desk personnel I came into contact with spoke English perfectly. They will book private cars for you and provide directions. If you drive into Prague, they can direct you to a nearby parking garage (this incurs an additional fee). Additionally, breakfast is served every morning; you can add this on to your booking for 10€ a day. The restaurant area is also open as a bar in the evenings. Each floor has a well-stocked refrigerated vending machine that serves drinks, snacks, and more necessities.

On the ground floor, before making your way into the main lobby, you will find a backpack shop on your left and a bahn mi cafe on your right. Bahn-mi-ba was always packed so I assume it’s quite good.
